The South Pacific Offshore Wind Project is proposed to be developed off the Illawarra coast of New South Wales, in the anticipated offshore renewable energy zone.
The 1.6GW project will use floating wind turbines and generate enough electricity to power 825,000 homes.
Project timeline
A Feasibility Licence is required to be held to conduct key environmental studies as part of the environmental approvals process under the EPBC Act
A Commercial Licence may be applied for once environmental approvals are held and a Management Plan is approved by the Offshore Infrastructure Regulator
Once a Commercial Licence is granted, construction can begin
